BOOKING
How do I book an appointment?
Once you’ve decided which package is perfect for you, select a day and time to suit. Bookings require a deposit online, and the remaining balance is to be paid in studio at your appointment. Please note, deposits will not be refunded if a cancellation is made within 48 hours of the scheduled appointment. This to respect both your time and our time.
What happens in my appointment? How long does my appointment take?
The length of your appointment depends on which whitening service you book. Our most popular service “The Confidence Package” takes 75 minutes, where as “The Touch Up Package” takes only 45 minutes. Each appointment will include a consultation, optional before and after photos, shade records, gum barrier application, and a series of whitening applications by one of our professional teeth whitening practitioners. After your appointment freshen up at our glam station and take some selfies to show off your new bright smile.
Who is not suitable for an appointment at The Whitening Co Studios?
Teeth whitening is safe for most people and the best candidates are those who have mild to moderate discoloration. There are certain types of discoloration that cannot be corrected by whitening treatments, and there are certain dental or medical conditions that may decrease the effectiveness of teeth whitening. The following clients are not suitable for teeth whitening:
- Clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you wish to have your teeth whitened whilst pregnant or breastfeeding, please contact your health professional first.
- Clients under the age of 16
- Clients who have not visited the dentist in the past 6-12 months
- Clients with open cavities, gum disease, bleeding gums, swollen and inflamed gums and those who need filling work from their dentist.
If you have any concerns, we would recommend you visit your dentist first to ensure you are dentally fit before proceeding with teeth whitening.
TREATMENT
How does teeth whitening work?
Teeth are made up of an outer layer called enamel and an inner layer called dentin. Tooth enamel is porous allowing stains from day to day things such as coffee, tobacco, and red wine to work their way into the tooth dentin layer and make the tooth look discoloured. The Whitening Co gel in-store contains hydrogen peroxide, an agent which works through the enamel of the tooth to get to these discoloured molecules. The gel spreads through the tooth working it’s magic to whiten the entire tooth. As a result, you are left with a brighter, whiter smile.
What products do we use?
In studio, we use The Whitening Co. 12% hydrogen peroxide gel. This is a common, safe and effective treatment for whitening natural teeth.
What if I have crowns, veneers, or fillings?
Whitening products will not whiten the original shade of existing crowns, veneers, or fillings however it can remove any existing stains on these restorations. Whitening can be used on the lower teeth to match the shade of veneered upper teeth or vice versa.
How white will my teeth go?
We can guarantee your teeth will be whiter when you leave our studio, we just can’t predict how much whiter! Individual results vary due to your initial tooth shade, genetic factors, lifestyle factors, the strength of gel used and how long it is left on the teeth.
SENSITIVITY
What if I already have sensitive teeth?
It is best to let us know if you usually experience sensitivity with your teeth. In store we will modify your treatment by decreasing the whitening application time, amount or percentage. We also recommend brushing with sensitive toothpaste up to 2 weeks before your whitening appointment, as well as after. Desensitising gel or toothpaste can also be applied and left on your teeth before your appointment, to dramatically decrease sensitivity. Our whitening professionals want to provide you with the best results, with the least amount of sensitivity.
Does it hurt/will it damage my teeth? UV light problems, gum irritation?
Teeth whitening does not hurt or permanently damage your teeth. A minor tingling sensation may be experienced in those who have sensitive teeth, however this quickly subsides after whitening. In some cases, whitening gel may cause irritation to gums. This resolves itself within an hour of your whiten.
Is the LED light safe?
We provide you with some funky safety glasses to shield your eyes in-studio however our LED light is perfectly safe to use on teeth and gums.
AFTERCARE
What can I do to maintain my teeth after my appointment?
We will provide you the best after-care information after your appointment. For those with heavily stained teeth, your teeth whitening professional may recommend the Touch Up package after your initial whiten.
Our home whitening kits are also perfect for maintaining your beautiful white smile after you visit us in-studio. You can purchase these in store after your appointment or shop them online.
How often do I have to get my teeth whitened/is it permanent?
Teeth whitening is not permanent but results can last up to 6-12 months depending on lifestyle factors and how well you look after your teeth after the whitening treatment. The results will last longer if you avoid foods and drinks that will re-stain your teeth. Most commonly our clients visit us every 1-6 months.
What can/can't I eat after a whitening?
We suggest a 'white diet' for the first 24-48hours post treatment. What we mean by that is avoiding food and drink what would stain a clean white Tshirt. Coffee, Red wine and smoking are key ones to steer clear of.
